Workholding for Fast Changeovers
The key to effective and efficient production for workholding is fast changeovers. BIG Kaiser’s Gerard Vacio explains, “If you need a larger number of workholding devices to produce your products, you need either to swap out workholding devices or add machine tables.” Since adding machine tables is usually cost prohibitive, new workholding devices are typically the best alternative.
Here is a list of the most common setup systems for quick changeovers:
- Grid plates
- Zero-point clamping systems
- Shuttle tables
Remember: You want your systems to provide not only precise and accurate clamping and positioning, but provide it with speed. Our recommendation? Go with a zero-point clamping system such as Unilock, which satisfies all of the requirements above, and more.
