Insights from IMTS: Where’s the Digital Boring Head?

BIG Kaiser at IMTS

We have been asking some of our product experts what sorts of trends they were hearing about in our booth, what products have been gaining momentum, and we received a variety of well-thought out answers – but we’ll get to those in the next blog post.

Because according to Matt Tegelman, Applications Manager and Products Manager for Kaiser, a good portion of visitors had a one-track mind.

“’Where are the digital boring heads?’ was the quote I heard from attendees more than any other,” Tegelman says.

So, maybe a previous blog post from last month piqued some of our readers’ interests. And maybe you’re realizing that the jump to digital isn’t the barrier that you once thought.

“There was a ‘see it to believe it’ feeling that a lot of people had. The fear was that going digital would mean having to replace a handful of other parts, tools, accessories,” Tegelman added. “Finding out that it wasn’t the case – seeing and holding the product and watching how simple it was to use – that elicited a lot of smiles.”

Additional IMTS 2012 Highlights from Mary Uhrina, Communications Specialist for IMTS:

• Total registration for the six-day event was 100,200 – a 21.6% increase over 2010, marking the largest show-to-show increase ever for IMTS

• 119 countries were represented through exhibitors and visitors

• IMTS 2012 covered 1.248 million net square feet of exhibit space at Chicago’s McCormick Place

• 1,909 companies exhibited over the course of six days

“The energy level among visitors and exhibitors was at an all-time high,” said Peter Eelman, IMTS Vice President – Exhibitions and Communications. “The most exciting take-away from IMTS 2012 is what it says about the prospects for manufacturing over the next year. The overall activity and buzz indicates that we are entering a period of sustained growth that will fuel economic prosperity and job creation. Visitors came to find solutions and innovative approaches to their manufacturing challenges. They found immediate answers throughout the four halls and long-term possibilities in the Emerging Technology Center.”
