Digital Boring Head Backlash?

EWE 2-32

"I just received my 112 Series Digital boring head and the backlash is terrible! How do I return this head for a standard dial type?"

Not so fast! Do you have a boring bar clamped in the head yet?

During manufacturing, the grinding of the cylindrical tool carrier cartridge takes place with a boring bar slug clamped in place, which slightly deforms the cartridge and affects the fit between the tool carrier and the boring head body. Just like it is wrong to clamp a precision tool holder such as a hydraulic chuck without a tool in place, it is wrong to make diameter adjustments to the 112 Series EWD/EWE digital boring heads without having a boring bar clamped.
