A Week in Switzerland and a Peak Behind the Curtain

It’s always exciting when someone on our team takes the opportunity to travel to our original KAISER factory in Rümlang. But, this month’s trip was extra special. A group of 20 National Tooling & Machining Association (NTMA) members as well as executives from fellow Swiss-rooted companies joined our President/CEO, Chris Kaiser and VP of Sales and Engineering, Jack Burley on a 6-day trip to visit some of Switzerland’s most prominent manufacturers and their factories.

The stop in Rümlang gave the group a behind-the-scenes look at what goes in to the meticulous production of KAISER’s game-changing digital boring heads as well as test cuts in the tech center. And take it from us; it’s something to behold such technology and precision coming together.

As Matt Tegelman, our Applications Manager & KAISER Product Manager describes, “These heads bridge the technology gap between digital part measuring technology and existing analog tooling systems. KAISER digital boring heads show diametric changes down to .00005” and eliminate dial/cartridge backlash concerns.”

Attendees also marveled at the commitment to process optimization and flexibility in the number of combined mill/turn operations on the shop floor, supporting lot sizes from one to 1,000. This laser focus on lean processes, lights-out production, as well as collaboration was a theme the group noted throughout the week.

Modern Machine Shop’s Senior Editor, Derek Korn also joined the trip. Check out the upcoming edition for his unique perspective on all the factory and end-user visits. In the meantime, you can check out a quick recap on their blog.
