Eye on IMTS: Integration Capability is Key

Playing Well with Others
With as many moving parts as there are in any machining operation, you’re often only as strong as your weakest connection. And the vertical nature of our industry’s suppliers – no single brand is responsible for everything from the machine tool to the spindle to the toolholder to the tool, not to mention workholding, presetting, and so on.

Even though BIG Kaiser does cover a lot of those bases with our broad suite of brands and competencies, we still understand the value of integration with other brands due to the way all of the tools and machines must operate in unison. When it comes to performance, you shouldn’t be able to tell where one brand ends and another begins. Instead, they should seamlessly work together toward the same ultimate goal.

We’re making integration a focus area in booth #W-1600 at IMTS in a few weeks because it’s one of those basic, integral elements that drastically affects the bottom line, but is rarely talked about. Often, each brand is so concerned with promoting its own performance that it fails to communicate how well it integrates into the larger system – and for the end user, that’s every bit as important as the pure functionality of each piece of equipment. For you to work, your trusted brands need to play well with others.

Tool Presetter Integration
Manual, CNC and Shrink-Fit models will be on hand at our booth to demonstrate how seamlessly these tool presetters from Speroni can integrate with some of your existing assets. We’ll demonstrate tool list creation and sharing with Mastercam, create 3-D models and measure profiles of your cutters with Vericut, and perform read-write tool ID demonstrations with the help of Balluff. Most importantly, we’ll show you how to communicate all of this data with your Fanuc machine tool control–or your entire shop’s operations via MTConnect.

Zero-Point Workholding Integration
Complete workholding and part-handling solutions for automation and 5-axis machining will also be on display, including complete solutions like Fanuc robot integration, rotary indexing with a Hardinge unit, and how other traditional top-side workholding products can interface with Unilock to become a true quick-change system like those from Zagar and Raptor Workholding.
