400+ Chow Down on Breakfast, Food for Thought
With six unique seminars presented over three calorie-rich mornings, we went all in on our 2014 Breakfast & Learn morning educational sessions, held prior to and in conjunction with neighboring DMG MORI’s Chicago Innovation Days event. Judging by the turnout, machinists and metalworkers are hungry for knowledge and expertise in tooling, toolholding, workholding, presetting and more.
In many cases, the diversity of topics created repeat attendance; no two days covered the same subject matter. In other cases, the variety allowed shops and machinists with specific interests and needs to get more value out of a single, deep dive into a particular topic of interest. All told, well over 100 folks were on site each day, and more than 400 in total took advantage of the knowledge feast.
Each day was themed, allowing BIG Kaiser presenters to thoroughly cover specific topics that changed daily. Of course, this takes more work than trotting out the same couple of presentations each day, but it was worth it for BIG Kaiser to provide a good cross section of more highly technical seminars.
Tuesday’s theme was holemaking with a focus on deep hole boring and rigid tapping. Wednesday took a close look at machine tool spindles, with a focus on choosing the right spindle for the job (BIG-PLUS® or HSK), and getting more out of your existing spindle with spindle speeders. Thursday’s theme was on set-up reduction, with a focus on managing tool data with tool presetters and also on multi-axis zero-point workholding.
One of the reasons for this annual Breakfast & Learn event is to augment the already valuable DMG MORI Chicago Innovation Days experience, help attendees pack more into their day, and help them display ROI for their attendance to their shop’s decision makers. And the BIG Kaiser showroom stayed open all day for DMG MORI guests to stroll over – many times the DMG MORI dealers brought their customers by to learn more about us or discuss a specific application with BIG Kaiser engineers.
