25 Years at The BIG E

Last month marked the 25th consecutive year for BIG KAISER to join more than 500 other exhibitors at the Eastec manufacturing event in West Springfield, MA. The event draws more than 12,000 attendees from diverse industries across the New England region, and is a unique chance for manufacturing professionals to connect with suppliers to solve problems, improve productivity and increase profits.

Cutting tool highlights included a new super-slim milling chuck with a peripheral coolant supply, designed to support heavy-duty and finish end milling using half-inch cutters. We also introduced a Smart Damper boring bar for lathe applications. The patented design uses a heavyweight, strengthened damping mechanism inside the tool holder to absorb vibration and eliminate chatter. It’s also designed with the capability of supplying coolant through the body directly to the cutting edge. A lineup of tool measuring systems (TMS), tool holders and workholding solutions rounded out the BIG KAISER display.

On a related note, The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) took the opportunity to announce a new industry event planned for 2018, in partnership with the Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT). The inaugural “Smart Manufacturing Experience” will take place April 30 through May 2 at the Boston Convention Center, on an alternate-year schedule with Eastec. Focused less on hardware and more on connectivity and automation, the concept is to create a new kind of event that will help fast-track the adoption of smart manufacturing technologies.

According to the sponsors, the Smart Manufacturing Experience will provide hands-on, live technology demonstrations, active learning labs, collaborative technical workshops, and tours of best-in-class SMART factories.
