BIG Kaiser Playing Integral Role in Initiative Shaping America’s Manufacturing Future

BIG Kaiser technical experts Alan Miller and Tony Bylina had a chance to rub elbows with some of the most influential people in Illinois—the Governor, the Mayor of Chicago, Senators, you name it. Why, you ask? Because BIG Kaiser is playing a part in the country’s most important public/private manufacturing initiatives.

Last month, Tony and Alan joined dignitaries and manufacturing moguls at the ribbon cutting of the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (DMDII) here in Chicago. The DMDII is one of many such institutes across the country with unique concentrations all sharing the common goal of providing U.S. factories with tools, software, and expertise to be more competitive. The broader initiative is called the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI). Specifically, DMDII is charged with strengthening the digital thread as it’s called, the connection of data from product design all the way to delivery; BIG Kaiser has been involved from the very beginning when the call went out for partners. “We’re fully supportive of the idea that manufacturing as a whole needs some improvements,” Engineering Manager, Alan Miller said of why BIG Kaiser got involved. “There’s a lot of data out there and it’s not used well. That has to be improved. It’s critical to our future as a company and for broader manufacturing in America.”

We’ve consigned about $80,000 worth of equipment to the facility, highlighted by our highly advanced, highly connectable Speroni MAGIS 600 CNC tool presetter. The MAGIS is integrated with Vericut machine simulation software to create our most powerful offering for efficient, error-free tool set-ups. Alan explained that the system is an integral part of the digital thread being explored by DMDII, effectively acting as the link between the cutting tool and the digital thread, one of the last connections in the production process.
