The Best of Both Worlds: Exporting the BIG Kaiser Model

After more than 30 years of mutual growth and a positive relationship, BIG Daishowa Seiki Co. Ltd (Osaka, Japan), and KAISER Precision Tooling Ltd. (Rümlang, Switzerland) recently solidified their longtime partnership in the European and Asian markets. BIG Daishowa is the world’s largest collet chuck provider and KAISER is a global leader in modular boring and other tooling systems. The two companies have yet again come together to create a mutually beneficial distribution network, similar to the now decade-old partnership that has been so successful here in the United States with BIG Kaiser Precision Tooling Inc. In fact, BIG Kaiser Germany ran as a pilot project to test its efficacy in the European market. BIG Kaiser Germany’s success paved the way for a larger European partnership executed through KAISER Switzerland.

From each company’s standpoint, the other market is difficult to enter because the rules and conventions are so different. Executives decided to enter each other’s market with the help of the other. Their ultimate goal is to provide customers with the products they demand.

Both companies are comparable in their goals, which serves as an advantage, ensuring that they will move forward as partners on equal footing. Because the two companies occupy a similar space on the quality/premium pyramid, they share marketing strategies, philosophies and experiences. With their history of working together, the two companies are ideally positioned for expanded collaboration in Europe.

The KAISER Watch Industry Products Catalog was the first joint marketing piece produced for the European market, highlighting the two companies’ complimentary products offered for the micro and watch-making industries.

A BIG Daishowa product specialist will be transferred to the KAISER facility for three years to support the transition. He will be responsible for answering questions and merging the workflows of the two companies. Because BIG Daishowa is deeply rooted in the tightly knit machine tool community in Japan, the transfer will push BIG products into European machines—expanding the company’s horizons.

Through the partnership, KAISER will supply BIG customers with products, technical information and support—all funneled through a singular European channel. As the partnership grows, so will innovation. Working together, both companies will be able to develop new tools and pursue new ideas. Each company values precision and quality, which further solidifies the partnership.

KAISER announced its fortified relationship with BIG Daishowa during the company’s recent 65th anniversary festivities. Even after 65 successful years, KAISER still has its eyes on the future.
