New
Boring Head Extends Range of Kaiser’s
EWB Automatic Balancing Series from 4" to 6" |
| |
| ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL—The
addition of a new boring head, introduced at BIG Kaiser Precision
Tooling’s Booth E-2005 at IMTS 2004, September 8-15,
in Chicago’s McCormick Place, extends the upper range
of Kaiser’s series 310 EWB automatic balance precision
finish boring heads from 4" to 6" for high speed
operations. |
| |
| To
keep it fast and light, Kaiser’s new EWB head is made
from a high strength aluminum alloy with a high wear resistant
coating. “This is truly a high speed boring head. It
will significantly reduce boring operating cycle times and
improve the quality of bores in roundness and repeatability,” said
Jack Burley, BIG Kaiser Vice President, Engineering. |
| |
| The
EWB heads are designed for precision boring on modern CNC machining
centers. |
| |
| Six
different EWB heads (32, 41, 53, 68, 85, and the new 100),
all with KA connection, feature fully automatic precision balancing.
In these heads, precision balancing occurs automatically with
adjustment of the diameter. These heads cover a
range of diameters from 1.260 inches to 6.024 inches. |
| |
| “Use
of balanced heads provides the greatest assurance of optimum
performance. Modern cutting materials such as poly-crystalline
diamond (PCD) and cubic boron nitride (CBN) perform best with
high speed operation. Balanceable tooling gives the optimum
surface footage required for peak production and high finish
quality,” Burley said. |
| |
| “Balancing
the heads extends tool life and also contributes to longer
machine spindle life. Balanceable heads produce a noticeable
improvement in surface finish. They are highly recommended
for high speed applications and will enhance performance in
moderate speed applications,” he added. |
| |
| Maximum
permissible cutting speed for the automatic balancing heads
is 6,600 surface feet per minute. |
| |
| The
EWB heads feature micrometric adjustment precision. On the
EWB series automatic balancing heads, dials are graduated in
increments of .0005 inches. The dial design eliminates parallax
errors. A high precision vernier scale permits more accurate
setting accuracy to .0001”/diameter. |
| |
|
The Kaiser locking
system prevents any movement of either the tool carrier or
the counterweight under locking action or centrifugal force
created by high speed operation. All tool movement is strictly
radial, eliminating the length corrections required on angular
mounted boring tools. The EWB heads provide extremely easy
and accurate setting of finish size after only one trial
pass.
|
| |
|
All boring heads
use ISO standard positive geometry inserts to reduce cutting
forces and improve chip control. A full line of PCD and CBN
tipped inserts is available to support the highest production
rates in a wide range of high speed applications.
