The new coating outperforms AlTiN coatings because it offers the same hardness at higher temperatures, so cutting speeds can increase with no loss on insert life. This means less cutting time per part, which equals higher productivity and more parts per cutting edge.

ALCRONA inserts are recommended for finishing gray and ductile iron parts as well as applications in mild and high carbon steels. The high temperature hardness also makes this coating suitable for tough aerospace alloys.
