New Lathe Attachment Now Offered
With Speroni STP 34 Bench Top Presetter
ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL - A new lathe attachment now offered with the popular Speroni Model STP 34 bench top high precision measuring and presetting station can be retrofitted to a preinstalled unit.

"Speroni systems are configured to grow with the user. As the user's needs change or evolve, we can add enhancements. The lathe attachment can easily be mounted onto any STP 34 no matter the projector, vision system or control it is using," says Douglas Sumner, BIG Kaiser Product Manager, Tool Presetting and Measuring Systems.

The lathe attachment expands the capability of the Speroni tool measurement system; so that it can be used for measuring and presetting both traditional machining center tooling and for measuring CNC lathe quick-change tooling.
The optics mount can be adjusted axially +/- 4 mm (+/- .1575") from the focal plane, allowing the correct measurement of diameter when the cutting edge is off center. The dial indicator is centered and can measure off-center tooling up to +/- 2.5mm (+/- .0984"). The dial indicator attachment can securely swing out of the way, thus allowing for measurement of all other tooling without any interference. The resolution of the dial indicator is 0.010mm (.0004").

For best results from the lathe attachment, users my want to add the Four Position Index System and the Spindle Brake System. Custom or standard sleeves such as an ISO 50 taper to VDI, Capto® or KM® may also be needed, according to Sumner.
The STP34 features an easy-to-use digital readout with a display resolution of .001 mm (.00004"); a data memory with the capacity for 99 separate zero set points; and an RS232 port for connection to a printer or a computer.

The Speroni STP 34 provides greater stability, rigidity and resistance to temperature expansion than other manufacturers' models. Increased mass in both castings gives the new STP 34 greater stability. Its guideways use an improved style of bearing for smooth movement and precision along the Z and X axes. The system features an enhanced optical projector.

The STP 34 measures tool diameter up to 12" (304.8mm) and tool length up to 16" (406.4"), with repeatability to plus or minus 1.5 tenths (.00015"/0.0038mm). Its cast iron construction provides the greatest possible rigidity. Its high precision spindle has a maximum total runout of .0003" (.0075mm), allowing for precise diameter measurements at any tool length.

The STP 34's spindle has a gage point reference that makes it possible to perform calibrations without a test bar. It features an extremely smooth motion along the Z and X axes, with a simultaneous and individual locking mechanism. Fine adjustments are provided throughout the travel range.

"The STP 34 eliminates the trial and error of tool set-up. When equipped with either of our computer-based controls and the optional post processor software, It is fully compatible with DNC and CIM systems to provide first-part precision, increasing profitability by maximizing use of machine tools for what they're made to do - cut parts," Sumner says.

Speroni S.p.A., Pavia, Italy, designs and manufactures high precision tool presetting and measurement systems, integrated systems for tool management, test robots, and vision systems.
