Stability,
Broader Work Range, Accurate Dial Top Advantages
Of Kaiser's New 317/EWN Large Diameter Finish Boring Head |
| |
| Elk
Grove Village, IL - Redesign of the insert holder to extend the
work range and the adjusting dial for ease of use and accuracy are
two important improvements on BIG Kaiser's Series 317 large diameter
finish boring heads offered in the new EWN system. |
| |
| The
redesigned insert holder in the 317/EWN head allows for a broader
work range and versatility. It covers the full range of large bore
diameters from 5.91 inches to 46.46 inches. |
|
| Redesign
of the way the insert holder attaches to the boring head now allows
it to be easily turned around and used for back boring, making standard
an operation that often required special tooling. The new insert
holder also puts cutting edges on the centerline, providing better
chip control and evacuation. |
|
| The
adjusting dial has been moved to the backside of the boring head
to improve the accuracy of tool corrections. Tool adjustments can
still be made from the side with a standard hex key. The new design
allows easy reading of the dial from either the side or back. |
|
| Other
new features include redesign of the locking system that clamps
the tool carrier and adjusting dial, making the tool more stable
and safer. |
|
| The
compact, rugged configuration of the large diameter boring system
is ideal for use on production machines, such as boring mills and
machining centers, with spindle taper sizes of 40 and larger. |
|
| The
precision finishing head is directly mounted on an extension from
the 317 program. The boring head features a micrometric setting
precision of .0005 inches on the diameter per dial gradation (inch
head catalog No. 10.317.112) or ten microns (.01mm, metric catalog
No. 10.317.102). The easy-to-read dial permits the user to split
the gradations, providing extremely accurate and repeatable diameter
corrections. |
| |
| This
modular system provides optimum rigidity while offering a cost-effective
use of modular components. The new 317/EWN adapts to the standard
317 program, using existing slides, flanges, and extensions. For
most applications, only the slide needs to be changed to adapt to
a specific bore diameter. Each extension slide has an adjustment
range over 2.75 inches in diameter and can be increased to over
4.75 inches by using the additional insert holders available for
the EWN program. |
| |
| A
patented safety device prevents the boring head or counterweight
from being thrown off the slide by centrifugal force, even when
clamp screws have been hand tightened. |
|
| Kaiser's
locking system prevents any diameter shift under locking action
force, assuring the operation of repeatable diameter precision.
All tool movement is strictly radial, making length corrections
required on angular mounted tools unnecessary. A Kaiser EWN head
can be precisely set to finish size after only one trial pass, resulting
in a drastic reduction in expensive downtime and scrap. |
|
| Insert
holders are designed for use with positive rake indexable inserts
and use self-centering, center clamping insert screws, providing
lower cutting forces and improved chip evacuation when compared
to top clamping systems. Through spindle coolant capability is standard. |
