New
Aluminum Extension Slides Reduce Weight
Of Kaiser's 317 Large Diameter Tools by 65% |
| |
| ELK
GROVE VILLAGE, IL-New aluminum extension slides significantly reduce
the tool weight of BIG Kaiser's Series 317 large diameter boring
system, speeding changeover and enhancing ease of handling. |
|
|
| Cutting
performance tests favorably compare the capabilities of the new
high strength aluminum alloy extension slides with the standard
steel execution. The new aluminum alloy is able to achieve equivalent
high material removal rates in both rough and finish boring operations. |
| |
| The
number one advantage of selecting the new aluminum extension slides
for large diameter boring is achieving a total tool weight reduction
of up to 65%, compared to standard steel versions. Six new aluminum
extension slides are available for the same bore sizes as steel
slides, covering diameters from 7.8" to 24.4". |
| |
| "We
suggest the aluminum extension slides for large bore diameters with
long length projections. They will reduce the tool weight and center
of gravity location to address tool changer issues. Operators and
tool setters will appreciate the weight reduction," said Jack
Burley, BIG Kaiser Vice President, Engineering. |
| |
| The
aluminum alloy extension slides receive a nickel-based coating to
add exterior hardness. Hardened steel shims mounted where screws
abut the aluminum protect the integrity of the connection. |
| |
| Kaiser's
317 series covers the full range of large bore diameters from 5.91
inches to 46.46 inches. The compact, rugged configuration of the
large diameter boring system is ideal for use on production machines,
such as boring mills and machining centers, with spindle taper sizes
of 40 and larger. |
| |
| The
precision finishing head is directly mounted on an extension from
the 317 program. The boring head features a micrometric setting
precision of .0005 inches on the diameter per dial gradation (inch
head catalog No. 10.317.112) or ten microns (.01mm, metric catalog
No. 10.317.102). The easy-to-read dial permits the user to split
the gradations, providing extremely accurate and repeatable diameter
corrections. |
|
|
| This
modular system provides optimum rigidity while offering a cost-effective
use of modular components. For most applications, only the slide
needs to be changed to adapt to a specific bore diameter. Each extension
slide has an adjustment range over 2.75 inches in diameter and can
be increased to over 4.75 inches by using the additional insert
holders available. |
|
|
| A
patented safety device prevents the boring head or counterweight
from being thrown off the slide by centrifugal force within safe
operating speeds, even when clamp screws have only been hand tightened. |
|
|
| Kaiser's
locking system prevents any diameter shift under locking action
force, assuring the operator of repeatable diameter precision. All
tool movement is strictly radial, making length corrections required
on angular mounted tools unnecessary. |
|
|
| Insert
holders are designed for use with positive rake indexable inserts
and use self-centering, center clamping insert screws, providing
lower cutting forces and improved chip evacuation when compared
to top clamping systems. Through spindle coolant capability is standard. |
